Colca Canyon Trekking 2 Days

AREQUIPA - CRUZ DEL CONDOR - SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO - OASIS

Pick up from the respective hotel in the tourist mobility towards the Town of Chivay at approximately 3:00 to 3:30 hrs. (164 km.). Passing through Chivay we will arrive at the town of Yanque where we will have the American breakfast (06:30 hrs).

Then we will travel for 2 hours (42 km.) To Cruz del Cóndor, where we will have 40 minutes to appreciate the flight of the condors and the depth of the canyon (3207 meters).

9.30 am. We will arrive at the Mirador de San Miguel and immediately begin the walk down the canyon (3 and a half hours).

13: 00hrs. We arrive at the first suspension bridge, we will rest and continue our walk for 10 more minutes arriving at the first San Juan de Chuccho community, where the guide will be in charge of preparing food for the group while we rest. After lunch we will continue the walk, this time to visit the towns of Malata and Cosñirhua, sharing with their people their customs and stories.

05: 00hrs. We arrive at the Oasis, a peaceful and charming place, where we will enjoy its swimming pools, surrounded by palm trees and its hostel. We will rest in typical BASIC  adobe bungalows of the area.

 OASIS - CABANACONDE - CHIVAY - AREQUIPA

04:30 hrs. We start the hike again this time of ascent for 03 hours.

08: 30hrs. Arrival to the town of Cabanaconde where we will have breakfast and visit the town. In this town we will take the tourist bus back to the city of Chivay, making tourist stops in the traditional town of Maca, and the natural viewpoints to appreciate the pre-Inca terraces of the valley, among others ...

12:30 hrs. Arrival to the town of Yanque, time to visit the thermo-medicinal baths of Chacapi (01 hour). After lunch, we will return to the city of Arequipa, on the way we will stop to observe the "Volcanoes" Ampato, Sabancaya, Hualca Hualca, Mismi (source where the Amazon River is born) and the Chila mountain range; later we will see wild vicuñas, alpacas and llamas in the national reserve of salinas and aguada blanca, some birds such as flamingos depending on the season. (17:00 hrs. Approx. Back to Arequipa.).

If you want to continue on day 2 from Colca (Chivay) to the city of Puno, instead of continuing to the city of Arequipa, you have 2 options:

1.- By tourist bus in shared service.

2.- In private transport.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

• For people who get tired during the trek it is possible to hire mules from Sangalle to Cabanaconde (last day of the trek).
• In most towns, lodgings and in the Oasis there is no electricity all night. They have their own solar panel or turbine. Yes, you can charge your batteries, but don't wait for electricity in the bedroom.
• The rooms inside the canyon: the shelters, the stay at home or the shelters, are very basic; They try to offer you the best they have, but don't expect or dream of the real hostels or hotels.
